Ancien Regime is french meaning the a political and social structure based on a monarchy. Old customs handed from century to century were swept away during a rather short period of years culminating in the beheading of Louis XVI. Followed by a period of terror and turmoil terminated by the creation of a new autocrat Napoleon. The idea of a political will based on the people spread around the world. Irreversible. But still the ancien regime cast a shadow on everything succeeding until now.
